Description

The role of the Assistant Commercial Manager is to support the Commercial Manager on the Serco Dstl Account Prime Contract with potential for some work in the wider Operating Unit, interpreting and resolving contractual issues including negotiation with the customer and supply chain. Commercial support and direction is also required in the development of projects, providing facilitation and advice to project/bid teams in the development of innovative business solutions, ensuring that commercial, legal and contractual best practice is applied. A focus of the role will be to work with the Major New Works and operational teams, procurement and finance in optimising operational and customer service within the contractual frameworks or identifying and developing enhancements which may also offer opportunities for cost improvement or revenue increase.

Based at Porton Down, although travel to other customer sites is required as necessary.
Interpretation and resolution of contractual issues.
Maintain an operational and customer, service delivery focus.
Support to Serco team, particularly the Major New Works team, Procurement, Operations,Business & Development and Finance on commercial and contract Issues.
Support the contract change process.
Ensuring contract obligations are met and recorded.
Attendance or deputising at regular stakeholder and governance meetings.
Contract/standard form management, drafting and amendment.
Purchase order review prior to release/acceptance.
Commercial familiarisation throughout the account.
To actively work within the governance process by contributing relevant expertise to project/bid teams.
To manage effective relationships with internal and external customers. Liaison with all key stakeholders within the team and as necessary, Division head office in Hook.
Participate in contract negotiations and input to cost and pricing models where required.
Preparation of investment approval documentation where required.
To share best practice and good corporate governance within the company.
To identify and manage risk in business activities and take responsibility for reporting risks in a timely, open and appropriate manner.
Management of commercial databases, commercial electronic filing in SIMS and commercial administration.

Proficient in use of MS Office, Outlook and specifically Excel, Visio3, PowerPoint (database skills an advantage)
Previous industry (construction and facilities management) experience would be desirable
