Job Title: Business Analyst

Location: London, with occasional travel to Colchester

The Business Analyst is a key interface between business and technical stakeholders to facilitate an understanding of problems being presented and specify the requirements which must be satisfied in order to deliver a solution which addresses them.

The Business Analyst is responsible for:

  • Working with customers (internal and external to ISS) to elicit and document the Business Requirements for solutions to be delivered by ISS
  • Working with engagement and technical teams to document functional requirements aligned to the business requirements and maintain traceability from the ‘business need’ through to a delivered and tested solution.
  • The role is vital in ensuring that solutions delivered by ISS provide value to the Firm by addressing a need or realising the opportunity.

Key Dimensions:

The Business Analyst will liaise with stakeholders at varying levels of seniority within the Practice and Business Services to represent their requirements when requesting a solution to problem that might include technology.

This may take the form of project work funded by a Business Case and subject to project governance controls, or smaller Business as Usual initiatives which need to be assessed and documented.

The Business Analyst forms part of the Strategy, Planning & Solutions team and has close working relationships with the Engagement team. In addition, they will have key working relationships with Project Managers, Solution Designers, Developers and Testers in the delivery of projects and with other groups within ISS such as the Operational and Architecture teams.

They will possess an eagerness for change and continuous improvement and will also display strong communication, ownership and analytical skills. The ability to plan, manage and review activities efficiently will be essential.

Key responsibilities and challenges

The Business Analyst is a strong communicator who is comfortable using their initiative to work independently, with depth of experience in gathering and documenting requirements to a level of detail suitable and appropriate for delivery of projects. They also have an in-depth knowledge of the various tools and techniques for obtaining this information from stakeholders and presenting it in a manner which is communicable to both business and technical audiences.

Business Analysis

The Business Analyst is responsible for performing the following activities throughout the entire solution delivery lifecycle:

  • Planning and estimating timescales for Business Analysis tasks within a project.
  • Preparing and facilitating user workshops, and liaising in a professional manner with stakeholders at all levels to elicit requirements.
  • Documenting requirements to a level of detail suitable for delivery using a variety of tools such as use cases, wireframes and process maps.
  • Managing requirements including scope, traceability and change requests throughout a project.
  • Working closely across the ISS teams to clarify requirements and understand technical limitations.
  • Presenting options and recommendations to the business to address their concerns and business impacts where requirements cannot be met for technical reasons.
  • Supporting test teams with requirements clarification and risk assessment to focus testing effort on the areas most important to the business.

Technical

In addition, the Business Analyst should be competent in the following areas:

  • Strong technical Business Analysis skills, including experience in a range of methodologies, elicitation methods and documentation techniques.
  • Maintain a good understanding of key developments in the information technology industry.
  • Continue to develop strong knowledge around the systems, applications and infrastructure.

  • University Graduate caliber
  • ISEB Certification in Business Analysis or equivalent
  • Practical Experience
  • Previous exposure to a consulting position in a blue chip or consulting house
  • Understanding of the techniques of system development and service management disciplines
  • Understanding of the core concepts and key principles of system architectures
  • Office Skills
  • Microsoft Office including strong competency in Visio
  • Commercial Skills
  • Previous experience of building and maintaining effective working relationships at all levels
