Our client is looking for an Ex-Military person to look after an elderly war veteran at home. The client is aged 95, has arthritic knees which causes him pain in walking. He walks with a zimmer frame. The client has stair lifts on all floors.

The applicant is required to be a companion, in the more clement months to take him out in a wheel chair for a walk, to assist him when he walks in the house with his zimmer frame, to help him to the bathroom and help him undo and do up the button at the top of his trousers (he can manage the rest on his own), to give him lunch (which will normally be left for him and the carer already prepared) and to chop up any food for him as he has little feeling at the end of his fingers, so that combined with poor eyesight causes a difficulty for him, to read to him if required either the paper or a book (he is partially sighted and finds the small print difficult), to get him coffee or tea during the day. etc. He is deaf but does have hearing aids in both ears. A car driver would be useful.

He is extremely talkative and the successful candidate will be required to provide him with companionship, support for short walks, support climbing stairs and other duties which will be discussed during interview process. Please note that the gentleman does not need nursing and this role is more a supportive position.

The clients military career during the last world war started with the Royal West Kent Regiment, then No: 3 commandos, then back to the Royal West Kent Regiment then on to the RAF. His civilian career was as a solicitor. The clients interests are rugby, classical music, opera, history, poetry.

The position is for approximately 3-4 days per week from 1000hrs - 1600hrs (slight flexibility)
