Ground Handling Operative

Location: Birmingham
Salary: £17,521 + bonus = £21,976.92

We are actively seeking interest from candidates who would be interested in joining our client at their BHX operation within their busy Cargo department.

Applicants will have worked in a fast moving, challenging environment and be able to provide the highest levels of customer service, whilst working under pressure to meet operational deadlines.

Previous knowledge of the Cargo industry is desirable, along with the ability to maintain a safe and secure working environment.

Key Tasks:

To ensure the daily running of the facility, whilst maintaining high levels of customer service in conjunction with the 2IC. To support the 2IC in all areas of the business, and ensure compliance of Regulatory bodies e.g. HSE, CAA and HMR&C.

Receiving, sorting, breaking, and building cargo, and undertaking security screening to meet CAA regulations. Accurately prepare and complete associated paperwork. Other responsibilities include:

  • Fulfilling employee commitment to Vision Mission and Values
  • Liaising with customers in polite and efficient manner
  • Offloading/loading cargo from onto vehicles
  • Identify damaged/short delivered cargo–and take all necessary action as per Company and customers requirement.
  • Operating telephone system in a polite and efficient manner
  • Liaising with office staff and drivers as appropriate
  • Assist HMRC and regulatory bodies e.g.CAA,Police,HSE,CAA etc.
  • Operate mobile and fixed equipment, including forklift trucks, pallet handling systems,waste management machinery etc.

Hours of Work: 

42 Hours per week to include earlies, lates, nights, and weekends
