Abbey Wood, Bristol
Unrivalled scale. Incredible scope. Rewarding complexity. At the Ministry of Defence, Programme and Project Managers provide world class support to a world class defence force. We’re significantly expanding the team at Abbey Wood. Joining us, you’ll be instrumental to defending Britain’s interests at home and overseas, and you’ll help us strengthen international peace and stability.
These positions are based within Defence Equipment & Support, the specialist function responsible for equipping and supporting the UK’s Armed Forces. It’s a setting unlike any other in UK procurement - not just because of the value and complexity of projects, but thanks to the kind of ‘kit’ we acquire. You could soon be working on cutting edge technologies that are pushing the boundaries of current scientific development.
There are opportunities to focus on either land, air or maritime-related equipment, as well as other crucial projects – but wherever you specialise, you can look forward to leading or supporting mission-critical projects through the whole life cycle. Close collaboration with industry partners and international counterparts will add another extra dimension to the role.
We’re looking for a wide range of professionals from a broad range of backgrounds – defence experience is not required for many roles. To join us at C2 grade, you will need some experience of managing and delivering successful projects in a complex environment.
A Project Management qualification is preferred, such as APMP/APM PQ/Prince 2 or equivalent – although we will support you to attain this if you do not hold it already. We’ll also expect you to bring strong problem solving and resource management skills, alongside an adaptable approach.
We offer an open, flexible and supportive working environment plus a good pension and benefits package. From in-house courses and sponsorship to gain formal qualifications, through to the sheer diversity of your role and projects, you’ll enjoy excellent opportunities for personal and professional development.
