Description

Based in Central London, Tower Bridge

SQL Server DBA:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 2005/2008R2/2012 (3 years+ recent installation, administration & troubleshooting)
  • Backups, Recovery and DR – logshipping, mirroring, replication (merge/transactional)
  • SSRS – Competent installation, configuration, administration, development and deployment
  • SSIS, SSAS – Competent understanding of deployment and troubleshooting.
  • Failover Clustering (physical and virtual configurations)
  • Upgrades/Migrations/Patching
  • Competent understanding of T-SQL
  • Windows Experience – Windows Server 2003 onwards (Powershell, WScript)
  • Microsoft Certified in SQL Server a plus.

Desirable:

  • IBM Tivoli Storage Manager for Databases
  • Database San Storage Migrations/Replication/Snapshots
  • SQL Databases running on Virtual Hosts.
  • ITIL Background
  • Microsoft or Oracle Certified in RBDMS technologies.

Responsibilities

High Level Functional Activities:

  • Use database management tools to investigate, diagnose and resolve database problems within service level agreement tolerances, referring to database users, other staff and suppliers as necessary.
  • Use database management systems software and appropriate analysis tools to collect routine database performance statistics and create reports, including proposals for improvement.
  • Carrying out routine configuration/installation and reconfiguration of Oracle/SQL Server database and related products.
  • Enrols users, maintains system security, controls and monitors user access to databases.
  • Backs up and restores databases, maintaining archived backup data on tape or other medium, Performs data maintenance and borrowing activities.
  • Assists users or acts on their behalf to create complex query definitions (SQL, PL/SQL, TSQL) in order to extract and manipulate data.
  • Assists in documenting procedures and scripts for all aspects of database installation, configuration and administration.
  • Works with application developers, support staff and external software vendors to troubleshoot site-specific performance issues, escalating to developers for software fixes or implementing database improvements.
