JOB DESCRIPTION: Transport Planner

The Company


Our client is one of Australias largest privately owned bus companys, with their head office and main depot at Darwin NT. They specialise in public buses, school buses, charter buses and major event transportation. Due to continued network growth they are looking for a Transport Planner to join their team at Darwin.


Job Purpose


· To present the most cost effective/efficient shift roster construction enabling the company to meet its contract obligations.


Key Accountabilities


· To undertake on-going service reviews of all service areas to improve effectiveness and efficiency of services.


· To liaise with operational staff in the design and implementation of all services and changes to existing services.


· To cost effectively schedule and roster contracted work while working within award conditions, and provide resulting rosters and shifts to operations.


· To provide operations with service costing information as required from time to time.


· To design new services as per client requests


· To implement and maintain payroll by roster and work closely with payroll to ensure correct wages are paid


· To ensure all rosters comply with the National Fatigue Management Guidelines.


· To work closely with the Finance and Administration Manager regarding budget compliance. Maintaining daily passenger numbers on each service.

 


Qualifications, Skills and Experience


Essential


· A recognised qualification in Transport and/or Logistics is essential.


· Well developed analytical and problem solving skills.


· Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and as part of a professional team.


· Well developed verbal communication skills.


· Demonstrated ability to interpret company policies and procedural instructions.


· Computer literacy particularly Microsoft Office.


· Accept personal responsibility and accountability.


· Ability to understand and manage outcomes within budgetary constraints.


· Ability to prioritise work and meet deadlines.


Desirable


· Well developed negotiation skills.


· Well developed mathematical skills.


· Demonstrated ability to lead, develop and coach others.


· Extensive knowledge of service planning, bus plans/schedules and rostering principles.


Major Challenges


· Partnership with Operations in developing service improvements.


· To present the most cost effective/efficient shift roster construction enabling the company to meet its contract obligations.


· To maintain an ongoing service review of all contracted services, ensuring narratives and times are correct to continually ensure their effectiveness and efficiency.


· To monitor service kilometres in order to minimise dead running.


· Develop and implement service improvements that lead to business growth.


Other Features


· Develop and maintain a sound working relationship across all functional areas.


· Develop an innovative approach to service reviews/enhancement and introduction.


· Produce 'what if' results from scenarios presented by management.


· Use own initiative to produce different scenario with regards to shifts and rosters carrying out cost benefit analysis.
