Murder charges dropped against 2 Marines

Two of the five Royal Marines charged with murder of an Afghan national have had the charges against them dropped.

A spokesman for the Service Prosecuting Authority said: “On 5 February 2012, the SPA formally decided to discontinue Court Martial proceedings in respect of two of the Marines on the charge of Murder.

"This decision flows from the SPA’s duty to conduct a continual review of all the evidence collated to date. The two individuals have been informed accordingly.

"This decision will be declared formally at the next hearing of this case before the Court Martial.”
